Arena is the first chapter in the Elder Scrolls series and it is huge. There are over 400 cities, towns and villages to explore, tons of magical items and heaps of spells to create.
The CD-ROM release featured speech in cutscenes and additional rendered sequences that the floppy version did not include. |

Battlespire is the first game in the Elder Scrolls Legend series lineup. Its more linear than Arena and Daggerfall, and more like Ultima Underworld.
The Battlespire is a training ground to become an Imperial Battlemage. When you enter, the place has been taken over by a Daedra Prince and you must save The Battlespire.
Battlespire plays more like a shooter than an RPG; there are no towns, no gold, and you get all your items by finding them (either on the ground or on dead bodies). Your weapons consist of the basic medieval RPG implements. There are people to talk to in The Battlespire. Battlespire only provides around 60 hours of gameplay compared to more than 100 hours in Daggerfall. This game also supports multiplayer, allowing you to battle it out with your friends and other Guilds. |

Redguard is the first Elder Scrolls Adventures game, set in the land of Tamriel at the end of the 2nd era during Tiber Septims reign of power. You are Cyrus, a Redguard mercenary and well-known hero. Your overall objective is to find Iszara, your sister, in Stros M'Kai, Hammerfell.
You are a pirate, and a mighty one. Armed with your trusty sword, battle imperial guards, skeletons, goblins, zombies, and all sorts of other creatures as you search far and wide for your sister. Many townsfolk will have information for you including rogues who'd rather let their swords do the talking.
Using the keyboard, you'll be climbing, jumping, swimming, strafing as well as fencing. But, your quest involves much adventuring as well as action. Helping people with their unique problems along conversation paths, finding objects and interacting with them in puzzles and an involved storyline are all part of the "adventure" aspects. |

In the tradition of the Elder Scrolls series, Bethesda created a huge fantasy role-playing game that leaves more freedom to the player than most other games before. After being released from a prison ship at the shores of the island Vvardenfell, Morrowind heroes may do more or less what they want: follow the main quest and solve the mystery of an ancient prophecy, join any of roughly a dozen guilds and rise in their hierarchy by performing duties, or simply explore the gigantic island with its very individual cities, hundreds of dungeons and tombs, ancient ruins and mighty fortresses.
Morrowind uses a two-stage skill system. Your hero�s primary stats (strength etc.) increase with each level gained, secondary abilities improve by use � the more often you jump, the more proficient you become in the �Acrobatics� skill. The real-time fights are simple exchanges of strikes or spells, until one combatant dies. The enemy's condition (�How wounded is he?�) is not shown.
Your race and gender, but also your reputation influence the reactions of NPCs. If a character�s sympathy for you is low (rated on a scale from 1 to 100), he might refuse to answer your questions; if it is high, you�ll get more detailed information and better bargains in shops. Most quests involving other persons can be solved by persuasion, pick pocketing, or simply by force.
Morrowind�s NDL 3D game engine is powerful in drawing wide, detailed outdoor landscapes as well as complex indoor environments. Transitions are not fluent; houses and dungeons must be loaded upon entering. |
